PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Connors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Connors!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marcus Adams!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adams keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Connors is looking to chop away at Adams's legs.

Adams manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Connors on his heels. He'll look to pass Connors's guard now, I'm sure.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Connors throws his legs up looking for a submission but Adams uses it to pass to side control.
Connors stops Adams from passing to mount.
Connors regains half guard.

Adams is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Connors doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Adams.
Adams frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Adams cracks Connors with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

It looks like Adams might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Connors is in all sorts of trouble here.
Adams sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Adams wants to stand but Connors is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Adams tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Connors takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Connors gets back to half guard.
Connors is breathing heavily.
Adams is looking to advance position but Connors won't allow it.
Adams looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Connors with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Connors trying to hold on to Adams's head to control him but Adams postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Adams dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Adams shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Connors trying to control here.
Adams seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Adams landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Adams content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Connors won't allow Adams to pass to mount.
Connors has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Adams is working away from the top position though.
Connors is pressing down on Adams's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Connors is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Adams connects with a couple of short punches.

Adams stands up from Connors's guard - Adams perhaps looking for a knockout.

Adams shoots in and gets a takedown into Connors's guard.
Adams controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Adams wants to pass the guard but Connors is keeping the position.
Marcus Adams has got the better of the ground game so far.

Adams avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Adams would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Adams slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Adams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Connors is keeping the position for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Adams throwing strikes from guard but Connors blocks nicely.
Adams throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Connors works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Adams trying to control but Connors is working from the bottom.
Adams wants to stand and escape but instead Connors has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Connors trying to control the position from guard on top but Adams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Adams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Adams looking to score a takedown here. Connors is defending well but Adams drives through and ends up in Connors's guard.
Adams slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Connors looking to control.
Adams wants to control from the top but Connors keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Connors misses with a takedown attempt - Adams sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Adams darts in and clinches Connors up against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Connors drops down looking for an ankle pick but Adams pulls his leg out and moves away.

Adams closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Connors quickly recovers to half guard.

Connors looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Adams looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Adams not doing much here.

Adams wants to stand but Connors has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Adams wants to take a breather but Connors is having none of it.
Adams trying to pass the guard but Connors defending well.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well Adams has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
