The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn jabs Paquiao to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Penn misses with a lunging right hand
and Paquiao counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Penn shoots in and gets a takedown into Paquiao's guard.

Penn lands a couple of elbows.
Penn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Paquiao is keeping the position for now.
Paquiao is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Penn throwing strikes from guard but Paquiao blocks nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn throws a strike aimed at the side of Paquiao's head but Paquiao avoids it well.
Paquiao is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Penn has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Paquiao takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Paquiao tries to escape but Penn is in control.

Penn is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Paquiao is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Paquiao is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Paquiao can do anything to dispel that myth.

Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Penn throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Paquiao has his hands clasped together but Penn breaks the hold and Paquiao is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Penn!
