PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fiodor Jemelianko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, John Flare!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Fiodor Jemelianko!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flare fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jemelianko fails with the takedown.
Jemelianko takes a swing at Flare's ribcage but misses.
Flare tries to land a front kick but Jemelianko steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jemelianko.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Flare prevents Jemelianko from improving position.

Jemelianko tries for a kimura but Flare is defending well.

Jemelianko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Flare, who protects the arm well.
Flare takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Jemelianko is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Flare knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jemelianko tries for a kimura but Flare is defending well.

Jemelianko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jemelianko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jemelianko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Flare has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jemelianko postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Flare regains half guard.
Flare is in trouble now - Jemelianko has advanced to mount!
Flare is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Flare can't escape the position.

Jemelianko looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Jemelianko goes for an armbar but Flare turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Flare.

Flare drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Flare jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jemelianko bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Flare's guard.
Jemelianko is stalling in the full guard.
Jemelianko sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Flare's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jemelianko is trying to work for a kimura but Flare is defending well.

Jemelianko seems to be working for a kimura but Flare defends the submission attempt.
Jemelianko looks gassed!

Jemelianko is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Jemelianko has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Flare gets back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jemelianko seems to be looking for submissions.
Flare trying to hold on to Jemelianko's head to control him but Jemelianko postures up.
Flare is not content to let Jemelianko control the position.

Jemelianko is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Flare wants to get back to full guard.
Jemelianko is nestled in close to Flare, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Flare won't allow Jemelianko to pass to mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jemelianko is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Jemelianko gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fiodor Jemelianko dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Horrible takedown by Flare or perhaps it was just good defense by Jemelianko which made him look bad.
Jemelianko shoots in for a double leg but Flare sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Jemelianko shoots in and bounces Flare off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Jemelianko keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Flare's head.

Jemelianko postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Flare is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jemelianko, into his guard.

Jemelianko looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jemelianko is breathing heavily.
Flare trying to control the position from guard on top but Jemelianko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Flare has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Jemelianko to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Flare is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Jemelianko pulls down on the head and he's put Flare to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Fiodor Jemelianko!
