PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gray Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Christopher Jackson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Christopher Jackson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson wants to clinch

and Maynard counters with a takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Maynard throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Jackson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Maynard has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Maynard connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jackson some visible discomfort.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jackson tries to bench press Maynard off him but Maynard keeps the position.
Maynard happy to just control the position for now.
An elbow from Maynard crashes against the mat.
Maynard wants to control but Jackson is keeping him busy.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Maynard is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jackson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Maynard is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jackson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Maynard is controlling him well.
Jackson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Maynard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Maynard lands a nice short elbow.
Maynard tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jackson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Maynard is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Jackson's shoulder. That is not cool.

Maynard is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jackson has escaped the position, nice work there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jackson is looking for a sweep.
Maynard is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Jackson's shoulder. That is not cool.
Jackson is trying to improve his position.

Maynard is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jackson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Jackson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gray Maynard dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Maynard dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Jackson has had enough and taps out.
