PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Average Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stevenson has chosen System of a Down- Chop Suey as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Joe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Stevenson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

You get the feeling that Stevenson really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Joe throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Joe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Stevenson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Stevenson!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Joe is working an open guard so Stevenson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Stevenson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Joe doesn't seem bothered though.

Stevenson throws a combination. Joe tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Stevenson lands with a hook. Joe tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Joe swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Stevenson counters with a series of strikes. Joe will be more careful next time no doubt.
Joe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stevenson swivels and escapes.
Stevenson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Joe's head backwards.

Stevenson lands a lovely overhand right.
Stevenson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Joe moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The crowd cheers as Stevenson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Joe doesn't seem phased though.
Joe fails with the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stevenson lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Good exchange - Stevenson coming out on top.
Joe's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Stevenson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Joe scrambles back to his feet.

Stevenson lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Joe backs up against the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stevenson cracks Joe with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Oh Joe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Joe keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Stevenson's efforts to push away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stevenson feints a jab promting Joe to slip. Stevenson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Joe slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Stevenson scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Joe looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Joe shoots in looking for a takedown. Stevenson tries to sprawl out of it but Joe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stevenson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Horrible takedown by Joe or perhaps it was just good defense by Stevenson which made him look bad.
