PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Cunningham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arthur Sleep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arthur Sleep will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Cunningham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Arthur Sleep!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sleep moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Sleep throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sleep works the jab nicely.
Cunningham throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sleep's waist but Sleep gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cunningham off to one side.
Sleep swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cunningham pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Nice shot by Sleep.
Cunningham shoots in but no luck this time.
Cunningham checks the leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Sleep.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cunningham gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Sleep counters with a one-two to the body.
Cunningham misses with a hook
and Sleep counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cunningham's knee momentarily.
Sleep looks to land a combination but Cunningham avoids it well.
Sleep is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sleep throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sleep blocks a head kick by Cunningham.
Arthur Sleep is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sleep fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sleep lands a nice leg kick that just misses Cunningham's sensitive parts.
Cunningham is breathing heavily.

Cunningham shoots in and gets a takedown into Sleep's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cunningham trying to control the position from guard on top but Sleep is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cunningham trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sleep wants to stand but Cunningham is controlling the position.
Sleep really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cunningham. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cunningham slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Charlie Cunningham wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A clash of legs there as Cunningham blocks the low kick.
Sleep is looking to score with low kicks.
Cunningham slips a jab and a cross from Sleep.
Sleep looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Sleep tries to work over Cunningham's front leg with a kick but Cunningham checks it.

Cunningham dives in and scores a takedown into Sleep's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cunningham stands up from Sleep's guard - Cunningham perhaps looking for a knockout.

Cunningham rushes Sleep and presses him up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cunningham stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Sleep pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sleep scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
A punch combination from Sleep misses.

Cunningham manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sleep on his heels. He'll look to pass Sleep's guard now, I'm sure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cunningham postures up and lands a big shot to Sleep's brow.
Cunningham throws a big right hand that misses.
Cunningham pushes down on Sleep's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Sleep tries to kick Cunningham off in order to stand up. Cunningham Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sleep tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Cunningham just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Cunningham has got one arm under Sleep's chin. This could be trouble... Sleep trying to control the other hand but Cunningham gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Sleep has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Charlie Cunningham!
