PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Sheppard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jon Sheppard has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jon Sheppard seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanders misses with a wild body shot.
Sheppard checks a leg kick.
Sheppard gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Sanders ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sheppard moves away.
Sanders motions for Sheppard to come forward. Sanders throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sheppard.
Sheppard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sanders punishes Sheppard's body with a nice straight punch.
Sanders lands a body shot.
Sheppard fails with the takedown
and Sanders counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Sanders swings for the body but Sheppard moves out of range.
Sanders does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Sanders lands a nice looking body shot.
Sanders dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sheppard shoots in for a double leg but Sanders sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Sheppard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good leg kick by Sanders there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Sanders fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
The fighters circling - Sanders throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Sheppard steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sanders.
Sanders swings for the body but Sheppard moves out of range.
Sanders is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Sheppard rather than just go for the knockout.
Good standup being displayed there by Sanders as he connects with a hook.
Sanders just misses with a punch to the body.
Sheppard uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sanders.

Sanders misses the shot to the body.
Sanders digs a good body shot into Sheppard's ribs.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sanders. Sheppard does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sanders slaps away a takedown attempt from Sheppard, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sanders feints and then cracks Sheppard's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sheppard down.
Sanders swings for the body but Sheppard moves out of range.
Sheppard keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sanders misses with a leg kick.
Sheppard with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sanders to score with a decent uppercut.

Sheppard manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sanders on his heels. He'll look to pass Sanders's guard now, I'm sure.

Sheppard won't allow Sanders to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sheppard loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Sanders can't keep his opponent in guard - Sheppard advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sheppard is looking to advance position but Sanders won't allow it.
Sheppard slows the pace down in half guard.
Sheppard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Sheppard missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Sanders wants to control but Sheppard is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sanders looks to score with a jab to the body but Sheppard is just out of range.
Sanders throws a leg kick but Sheppard sees it coming and moves out of range.
Sanders misses with a body shot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A telegraphed right hand from Sanders misses the target.
Sheppard swings for the body but Sanders moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barry Sanders dominated that round.
That's time! Sheppard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sanders stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sanders wants it to stay on the feet.
Sanders moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Sanders swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Sheppard counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Sheppard is looking to take a break and control but Sanders is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sheppard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sanders is just riding it out for now. Sheppard eventually gives up the hold.

Sheppard seems to be working for a kimura but Sanders defends the submission attempt.

Sheppard is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sheppard moves into full mount! Sanders won't be happy about that!
Sanders working to try and regain half guard.
Sheppard takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sheppard is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sanders has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Sheppard sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Sanders is squirming around, avoiding Sheppard's attempts to control the action.

Sanders is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sheppard lands a heavy elbow.
Sheppard controlling the position easily from mount.
Sanders is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Sheppard wants to take Sanders's back but he can't do it this time.

Sheppard is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Sanders is forced to tap! Great finish!

A very excited looking Jon Sheppard made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
