PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julio Spataro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oliver Kahn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kahn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Boris Brejcha - Flockentanz kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Julio Spataro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Oliver Kahn!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kahn staying out of range there.
Kahn tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Spataro paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Spataro connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Kahn darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Spataro wants to improve his position but Kahn is controlling well.
Spataro makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Spataro.
Spataro is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kahn in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kahn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Kahn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kahn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Spataro manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kahn has Spataro in his guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kahn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Spataro's guard.
Spataro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kahn is one step ahead there.

Kahn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Spataro is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kahn, into his guard.

Kahn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Spataro's guard.

Kahn drops back looking for a leg! Spataro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Spataro manages to kick Kahn off! Kahn jumps back into Spataro's guard.
Kahn is fighting to break Spataro's control of his arms but Spataro is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Kahn passes into half guard.
Kahn wants to free his trapped foot but Spataro is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kahn is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Spataro wants to control but Kahn is keeping busy.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kahn connects with a nice short shot to Spataro's temple.

Kahn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kahn thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Spataro's head.

Kahn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Spataro is just riding it out for now. Kahn eventually gives up the hold.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Spataro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Spataro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kahn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Spataro has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Spataro is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kahn has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Spataro is looking to defend but Kahn has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Spataro! Kahn pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Spataro taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Oliver Kahn!
Oliver Kahn really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Bushido Clothing logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
