Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rez Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Carter!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Carter counters by moving into the clinch.
Cortez has had enough of the clinch but Carter keeps him there for the moment.
Cortez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Carter is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Cortez can't fight it off and eventually Carter manages to take the fight to the floor. Cortez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Carter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Carter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Carter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Carter is looking to work some ground and pound but Cortez has wrist control.
Carter looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jason Carter wasn't active enough on the ground.
Cortez throws a series of punches but Carter avoids them all with ease.
Cortez looks to land a combination but Carter avoids it well.
Cortez throws a right and a left that Carter avoids nicely.
Cortez throws a hook but Carter blocks it.
Cortez throws a left and a right that both miss

and Carter moves into the clinch.

Carter pulls Cortez into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter has Cortez pulled in close to control his posture.
Carter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cortez is looking for a sweep. Carter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter not doing much here.
Carter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cortez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Carter takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Cortez is refusing to be controlled, as Carter sits in half guard.
Carter winds up and cracks Cortez with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carter landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carter connects with a nice short shot to Cortez's temple.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carter prevents Cortez from standing back up.
Cortez misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Carter is trying to control. Cortez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Well, if Carter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cortez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carter.
Rez Cortez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cortez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Carter keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Carter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cortez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Carter landing a few strikes.


Cortez is rocked!
Carter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Oh Cortez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carter decides to stand back up. Carter steps back and let's Cortez get back to his feet.
Cortez is breathing heavily.
Cortez misses with a double jab

and Carter counters by moving into the clinch.
Cortez tries to circle away but Carter has him pinned against the cage.

Carter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Carter manages to end up in side control.
Carter in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Cortez looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Carter turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jason Carter!
