Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Floyd Purell!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
James takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
James has a takedown stuffed.
Purell scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Purell tries to bum rush James with a series of wild strikes but James uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Purell throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.
James takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A punch combination from Purell misses.
Purell throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Purell works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Purell swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and James decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Purell's guard.
James prevents Purell from getting back to his feet.

Purell has momentary wrist control but James slips an elbow through the middle.
James postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Purell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with James. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
James throws a big elbow that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Purell can do anything to dispel that myth.

Purell looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

No joy there for Purell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Purell lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Purell throws a right and a left that both miss.
James dodges the punch combination from Purell.
Purell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it.
James gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Purell counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Purell slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

James closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Purell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Floyd Purell dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Purell works over James's head and body with a nice combination.
Purell just misses with a punch to the body.
James walks into a straight right hand from Purell.
Purell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Purell throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.

Purell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Purell throws a nice looking combination but James bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

James closes the distance and pushes Purell back into the cage.

James takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
James fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Purell avoids it really well and circles away.
Purell throws a right and a left that James avoids nicely.
James misses with a series of wild punches.
Floyd Purell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Purell's waist but Purell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side.

Purell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Purell wants it to stay on the feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Purell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That was a close second round but I would say that Josh James will probably get the nod.

James lands a strong strike to the head of Purell. That's dazed him! James looking to finish here. Purell is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - James lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
