Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Madhouse. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Child sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Child is defending against the submission attempts here by Smith.
Child trying to control from the bottom.

Child looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Child tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Smith tries to pass the half guard into mount. Child knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Child is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.
Smith throwing shots but Child is blocking nicely.

Child is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Child drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Child is looking to stand up but Smith won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Smith has his hands on Child's head, controlling the position.
Child wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.

Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Child can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Child must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Smith utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Smith is breathing heavily.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Child from controlling successfully.
Child trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Child doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Smith counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Child wants to sweep but no luck.

Child throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Smith escapes and throws Child's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Smith lands a nice forearm strike.
You can see the frustration on Child's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Child regains half guard.
Child regains full guard. Nicely done.
Child is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.

Child had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Child Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smith's back instead.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Child controlling the positon.
Smith has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Child.

Child is looking for the choke from the back position but Smith is controlling his hands well.
Child doesn't have the hooks in and Smith manages to turn into his guard.
Child is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Child is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Child shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Child won't be happy with that.
Child is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
Child looks to move to half guard but instead Smith has passed into mount! Damn!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Child is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.
Child slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Child is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Child is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Child might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smith kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Child is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Smith rolls with it to try and escape but Child cranks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
