PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mo Kendo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown has chosen Don't You Give Your Love Away as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mo Kendo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Victor Brown!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kendo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kendo scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Kendo tries to clinch there but Brown circles away.
Kendo leaves Brown with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kendo throws a wild body kick that Brown sees coming a mile off.
Brown walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Kendo swinging wildly here.
Kendo walks into a stiff left hand from Brown.
Kendo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Brown counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Brown fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kendo manages to avoid it.
Kendo throws a series of punches but Brown avoids them all with ease.
Kendo tries to clinch but Brown moves out of range.
Kendo closes the distance looking to clinch
and Brown counters with a right hand to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Brown fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kendo to the ground. Brown is now in Kendo's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Kendo has his foot on Brown's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brown works his way back into a safe position though.
Brown postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kendo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Brown trying to control but Kendo is working from the bottom.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Kendo has his foot on Brown's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brown works his way back into a safe position though.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kendo is on top in guard.

Brown bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kendo's guard.
Brown has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kendo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brown accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kendo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brown defends it easily.
Kendo can't keep his opponent in guard - Brown advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kendo keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Brown passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Brown cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Brown connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Brown fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!


Kendo is rocked!
Brown postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Kendo in real trouble here! The ref calls for Kendo to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Victor Brown! Victor Brown retains his welterweight title!
A very excited looking Victor Brown made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
