PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Diego Arteta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Rafferty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arteta comes to the cage accompanied by Yall must have Forgot--Roy Jones Jr. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Diego Arteta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Rafferty!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arteta fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Rafferty closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rafferty lands in his opponent's guard.

Rafferty gets to his feet - Arteta follows without any prompting.
Rafferty tries to clinch there but Arteta circles away.
Rafferty blocks a head kick by Arteta.

Rafferty scores a takedown into full mount!
Rafferty trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Rafferty goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Arteta turns into him and now he's in Rafferty's guard.
Rafferty manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Arteta manages to get himself to full guard.
Rafferty has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Arteta is proving hard to escape from.

Rafferty has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Arteta is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rafferty connects with a couple of short punches.

We're going to have a standup here because Diego Arteta wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Rafferty is trying hard to land a takedown here. Arteta sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rafferty shoots for a takedown but Arteta saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Arteta leaves Rafferty with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Arteta controls Rafferty momentarily but Rafferty frees himself.

A close round but Aaron Rafferty will probably get the nod.

Arteta lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rafferty backs up against the cage.
Rafferty tries to score a power double leg takedown but Arteta sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rafferty somewhat.
Arteta throws a body punch but Rafferty moves out of range.
Rafferty checks a low kick from Arteta.
Arteta is looking to slow Rafferty down with leg kicks.
Arteta lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Arteta feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rafferty's calf.
Rafferty fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rafferty fails with the takedown.
Rafferty is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Arteta lands a slapping body shot.

Arteta throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Aaron Rafferty has been cut.

Rafferty takes a jab right on the kisser.
Rafferty stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Arteta.
Arteta misses with a series of wild punches.

Rafferty with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Arteta to score with a decent uppercut.
Rafferty takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Diego Arteta is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Arteta throws a nice head kick!
Arteta throws a combination. Rafferty tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Arteta swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Arteta clinches up with Rafferty and pushes him back against the cage.

Arteta wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Rafferty fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Diego Arteta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Rafferty.

Arteta breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Diego Arteta is winning the standup battle so far.
Rafferty moves out of range of the body kick from Arteta.
Arteta lands a head kick. Rafferty smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Arteta tries to clinch but Rafferty moves out of range.
Arteta doesn't manage to clinch there - Rafferty circles away.
Arteta plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
A slow jab from Rafferty misses its intended target.
Rafferty takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Arteta connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rafferty's hands.

Sloppy strikes from Arteta. Those never looked like landing.
Arteta tries to clinch up but Rafferty circles away and keeps his distance.

Arteta shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Arteta was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Arteta tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Diego Arteta wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Rafferty shoots in looking for a takedown but Arteta manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rafferty's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rafferty shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Rafferty takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Arteta is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Arteta tries to hold on but Rafferty postures up.

Rafferty is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Arteta to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Arteta shrugs it off.

Arteta manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Aaron Rafferty has got the better of the ground game so far.
Arteta is concentrating on defense, preventing Rafferty from advancing position.

Rafferty wants to control but Arteta is keeping him busy.
Rafferty seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rafferty is trying to control. Arteta wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Arteta scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Arteta lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Arteta slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Diego Arteta showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Arteta has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Diego Arteta spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a big arrogant.
