PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ramon Valdez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buya Kasha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Valdez might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ojitos de noche serena. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ramon Valdez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Buya Kasha!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kasha stuffs the takedown attempt from Valdez. Valdez gets slowly back to his feet.

Valdez scores with a takedown into Kasha's guard.
Valdez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Valdez won't allow Kasha to sweep him here.
Kasha pulls Valdez in close to prevent any damage.
Valdez wants to control from the top but Kasha keeps moving.
Valdez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kasha is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Valdez is really struggling to control Kasha but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Valdez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

We're going to have a standup here because Ramon Valdez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Valdez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kasha is fending him off so far but Valdez persists. Nope, Kasha circles away and we're back to standing.
Kasha throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Valdez's head.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Kasha - that will leave a mark!
Kasha throws a nice looking combination but Valdez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Valdez.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ramon Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kasha fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Valdez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Valdez looks for a takedown but Kasha sprawls well.
Kasha lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Valdez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Valdez is breathing heavily.
Kasha is trying to control but can't.
Valdez is trying to control the action in half guard but Kasha is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Valdez thows a huge punch but Kasha dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kasha regains full guard. Nicely done.
Valdez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kasha works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kasha is trying to keep Valdez in close.
Valdez wants to pass the guard but Kasha is keeping the position.

Valdez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kasha dives on top into guard.
Kasha wants to control from the top but Valdez keeps moving.

Valdez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kasha is pushing down on Valdez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Valdez is fighting to maintain full guard but Kasha has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kasha is trying to control the action in half guard but Valdez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Kasha is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Valdez is trying to maintain the position but Kasha is very close to passing his half guard.
Kasha is keen to just control but Valdez is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kasha is looking for a kimura here.
Valdez is not content to let Kasha control the position.
Kasha works his way into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kasha is looking to take a break and control but Valdez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Valdez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kasha wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buya Kasha dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nice sprawl there from Kasha as Valdez shoots in.
Kasha wants to clinch.
A head kick from Kasha lands but Valdez takes it in his stride.


It looks like Ramon Valdez has been cut.
Valdez shoots in for a takedown but Kasha shows good takedown defense.
Valdez shoots for a takedown but Kasha saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kasha has control of Valdez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Valdez regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Valdez is wriggling around trying to escape.

Kasha has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Valdez is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Buya Kasha! Buya Kasha retains his middleweight title!
