PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Buckingham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renzo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckingham comes to the cage accompanied by Alien Ant Farm; Smooth Criminal. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buckingham tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gracie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Buckingham sprawls well. Buckingham wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Gracie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Buckingham defends it nicely.

Buckingham tries to keep at a distance but Gracie has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gracie is looking to break free of the clinch but Buckingham has double underhooks.
Gracie is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Buckingham pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Patrick Buckingham has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renzo Gracie.

Gracie is trying to break the clinch but Buckingham has him pressed against the cage.

Buckingham is pressed up against the cage. Gracie has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Buckingham down to the mat. Buckingham avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gracie feints and then cracks Buckingham's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Buckingham down.
Buckingham defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
Gracie with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Buckingham to score with a decent uppercut.

Buckingham has closed the distance and engaged Gracie in a clinch.
Gracie on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Gracie gets control of Buckingham's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gracie will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Buckingham's guard.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Buckingham manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Buckingham in his guard.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Buckingham is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.
