The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Durden tries to close the distance and clinch up but Thompson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Durden fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Thompson, pushing him back against the cage.

Durden lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Durden is trying to stand up here but Thompson is controlling him well.

Thompson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Durden can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Thompson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Durden has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Durden and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Durden enables Thompson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Durden manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Thompson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Durden really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thompson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thompson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Durden for as long as he can get away with.
Michael Thompson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
