PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hairy Bear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Zanico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Hairy Bear has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hairy Bear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rafael Zanico!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bear pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bear lands a leg kick that knocks Zanico off balance momentarily.
Bear tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Zanico was well out of range. Poor timing from Bear.
Bear lands with a hook. Zanico tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
A punch combination from Bear misses.
Bear throws a sloppy head kick

and Zanico counters with a shoot takedown. Bear fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Zanico stands and throws Bear's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bear wants to control but Zanico postures up.
Zanico sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bear is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Bear is looking to reverse the position.
Zanico is looking to take a break and control but Bear is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Zanico tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zanico has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zanico tries to advance to mount but can't.
Bear on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Zanico working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Zanico tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bear is looking to reverse the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zanico advances to full mount.

Zanico jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Bear is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Bear and Zanico has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Zanico is trying to get an arm triangle but Bear is defending well.
Bear tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Zanico wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zanico cracks Bear with a big elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zanico swings around for an armbar but Bear sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Zanico's guard.

Zanico is looking for a triangle but Bear pushes his legs off easily.
Bear trying to control the position from guard on top but Zanico is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bear drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Zanico manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bear has Zanico in his guard.

Bear has his foot on Zanico's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zanico works his way back into a safe position though.
Zanico stands and throws Bear's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Zanico content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Bear gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zanico landing strikes from the mount.
Zanico raining down hammerfists from mount.
Bear tries to hold on but Zanico postures up.

Zanico working for a submission but Bear is keeping him at bay.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Zanico has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Zanico postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Bear looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Zanico avoids the attempt from Bear to control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rafael Zanico dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Zanico changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bear looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Zanico working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Bear looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Zanico! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Rafael Zanico!
