PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marco Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santino Carolla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Marshall might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Light My Fire. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marco Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Santino Carolla!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Marshall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carolla's waist but Carolla gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marshall off to one side.
Marshall uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carolla.
Horrible takedown by Marshall or perhaps it was just good defense by Carolla which made him look bad.
Marshall gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Carolla throws an overhand right that lands on Marshall's shoulder, as Marshall tries to avoid the shot.
Carolla stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carolla wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marco Marshall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carolla scores with a jab to the head.


It looks like Marco Marshall has been cut.
Carolla cracks Marshall with a right hand to the side of the head.
Carolla loads up on a big right hand but Marshall slips the punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carolla misses with a looping left.
Carolla tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marshall was well out of range. Poor timing from Carolla.
Carolla misses the shot to the body.
A slow jab from Carolla misses its intended target.
Carolla feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Marshalls jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Marshall feints and as Carolla raises his hands in defense, Marshall changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Carolla preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marshall throwing strikes from guard but Carolla blocks nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marshall trying to move into half guard but instead Carolla has managed to sweep!

Carolla really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marshall. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Marshall is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carolla tries to free his leg and advance position but Marshall is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marshall keeping moving, preventing Carolla from controlling successfully.

Marshall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carolla can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Carolla tries to stand but Marshall is controlling from the bottom.
Carolla is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Marshall is trying to keep Carolla in close.
Carolla trying to control but Marshall is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Santino Carolla was stalling too much, according to the referee.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Marshall is defended easily by Carolla.
Carolla misses with a double jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marshall closes the distance and clinches up with Carolla, looking for a takedown. Marshall pushes Carolla against the cage but Carolla circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Marshall fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santino Carolla dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Marco Marshall's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Marshall dives in and grabs Carolla's left leg, looking for a takedown. Carolla pushes down on Marshall's head and hops out.
Carolla dips to his left and cracks Marshall with an uppercut!

Marshall closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carolla to the mat! Carolla manages to get full guard.
Carolla avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Marshall trying to control the position from guard on top but Carolla is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carolla utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carolla keeping full guard, as Marshall tries to pass.
Carolla has his hands on Marshall's head, controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carolla connects with a single shot there.
Marshall throws a body punch but Carolla moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Carolla gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Marshall throws a big right hand that misses.
Marshall trying to control but Carolla is working from the bottom.
Marshall slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Marshall won't allow Carolla to sweep him here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Marshall's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marshall postures up.
Marshall controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Marco Marshall just wasn't active enough.
Carolla misses with an uppercut.
Carolla has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Carolla rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marshall moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Marshall will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Carolla lands with a nice combination. Marshall backs away looking to recover.


Marshall is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marshall backs away from a small jab...but Carolla lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Marshall crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Carolla with a spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Santino Carolla!
After winning the bout, Santino Carolla thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
