PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Duval (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Segal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Duval!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steven Segal!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duval scores with a shot to the body.
Segal stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Duval.
Duval wants to clinch up but Segal keeps it at a distance.
Nice body punch from Duval.
Segal takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Segal shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Duval defends it nicely.
Segal misses with a two punch combination.
Segal with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Duval to score with a decent uppercut.
A head kick misses from Duval.
Segal looks for a takedown but Duval sprawls well.
Duval wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Segal circles away from the clinch attempt.
Duval throws a right and a left that both miss.
Segal takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jason Duval has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Segal.
Segal tries to clinch there but Duval circles away.

Duval scores with a jab. Segal acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Segal shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Segal on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Duval stuffs the takedown attempt from Segal. Segal gets slowly back to his feet.

The fight stays on the outside here - Segal looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Duval changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Segal tries to avoid it but Duval manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Segal to the ground. Segal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd cheers as Duval lands an impressive looking overhand right. Segal doesn't seem phased though.

Segal gets a clinch.
Duval changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Segal fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Nice uppercut there from Duval.
Duval tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Duval throws a sloppy head kick and Segal moves out of range easily.
Duval lands a head kick. Segal smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Segal.
Segal closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Duval scores with a leg kick.
Segal has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Duval.
Some wild striking there from Duval.
Duval wants to clinch up but Segal keeps it at a distance.
Duval misses with a head kick.
A cross from Duval lands.
Segal avoids a punch combination nicely.
Segal wants to clinch.

Segal is looking to slow Duval down with leg kicks.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Duval, right into the meat.
Segal avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Segal is trying desperately to land a takedown but Duval is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Segal.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Duval.
Segal shoots in for a takedown but Duval shows good takedown defense.

Duval shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Segal is trying to defend but Duval finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Duval looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Segal wants to control but Duval is keeping busy.
Duval missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duval moves into full mount! Segal won't be happy about that!
BOOM! Duval connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Duval dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Segal takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Jason Duval is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Segal tries to clinch up but Duval circles away and keeps his distance.
Segal swats away the attempt to clinch by Duval.
Duval moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Duval clinches.
Segal tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Duval wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Duval wants to break free but Segal has control.

Duval breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jason Duval seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Segal wants to clinch up but Duval keeps it at a distance.

Segal is breathing heavily.

Duval avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Duval is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Duval keeping moving, preventing Segal from controlling successfully.

Segal works over Duval with some ground and pound from guard.
Segal is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Steven Segal wasn't active enough on the ground.
Duval slips a jab and a cross from Segal.

Duval stuffs the takedown.

Segal has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Duval finds it's way round the side to connect with Segal's head.

Duval moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Duval shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Segal as he avoids it easily.
Duval connects with a leg kick. Segal looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Segal wants to clinch.
Duval tries to close the distance and clinch but Segal swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Segal's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Segal takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Segal.
Duval fails with an attempt to clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Duval tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Segal paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Segal is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Duval is defending well for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Duval dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Duval stuffs the takedown.

Segal closes the distance and pushes Duval back into the cage.

Segal pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Segal avoids the head kick by Duval.
Duval tries to clinch up

and Segal counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Duval!
Segal tries to control but Duval wriggling away.
Duval is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Segal takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Segal can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Duval is looking to escape.

Duval keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Segal controlling the pace for now.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Segal prevents Duval from getting the reversal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Segal sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Segal tries to control but Duval wriggling away.

Segal has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Duval's face.

Jason Duval is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Segal jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Duval is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Duval and Segal has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Duval is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Segal has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Segal trying to control the action but Duval is working from the bottom.
Duval is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Segal off and has taken his back!

Duval has the hooks in. Segal is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Duval controlling the position well here. Segal rolled but Duval kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Steven Segal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Duval doesn't have the hooks in and Segal manages to turn into his guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steven Segal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Duval has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Jason Duval rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
