Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brian Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Brian Simpson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Bird as Simpson shoots in.
Simpson fails to land the takedown.

Bird gets the takedown into side control.
Simpson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bird in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they both work up against the meshing.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Simpson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Anderson Bird.
Bird throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Simpson has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Simpson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bird stuffs the takedown.
Simpson is breathing heavily.
Bird shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Simpson as he avoids it easily.
Bird throws a leg kick that misses.
Bird misses with an attempted mid kick.
Simpson throws a head kick but Bird moves out of range.

Bird clinches up with Simpson and pushes him back against the cage.
Bird goes for a takedown in the clinch but Simpson prevents it.
Bird stops a takedown attempt from Simpson.
Bird drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Simpson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Simpson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Simpson ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Simpson punishes Bird's body with a nice straight punch.
Bird shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Simpson as he jumps to the side.
Bird throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Simpson moves out of range of the body kick from Bird.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Simpson throws a head kick but Bird moves out of range.
Bird has a takedown stuffed.
Simpson fails with the takedown.
Simpson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Simpson throws a nice inside leg kick.
Simpson looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nice takedown defense from Bird. No joy for Simpson on that attempt.
Simpson doesn't manage to clinch there - Bird circles away.
Bird swats away the attempt to clinch by Simpson.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Bird crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Simpson - the referee stops the clock and Bird gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Simpson. Bird manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Bird misses with a takedown attempt - Simpson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Simpson gets a clinch.

Bird turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bird manages to end up in side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bird decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Bird circles away from the clinch attempt
and Bird finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Bird wants to clinch up but Simpson keeps it at a distance.
Simpson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Bird is rocked!

It looks like Anderson Bird has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Simpson shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Simpson slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Simpson lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Brian Simpson!
