PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jessup Pike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Robinson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Eric Morrillo- Break Down the Doors. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Robinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jessup Pike!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Robinson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Pike is just holding on here. Robinson manages to take his back.

Pike is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Pike manages to reverse the position and now he's in Robinson's guard. Nice work there by Pike.
Pike prevents Robinson from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Robinson keeping moving, preventing Pike from controlling successfully.
Pike won't allow Robinson to get back to his feet.

Pike drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Robinson dives on top into guard.
Pike looks gassed!
Robinson wants to stand but Pike has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Pike looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pike keeping moving, preventing Robinson from controlling successfully.
Robinson is looking to work some ground and pound but Pike has wrist control.
Robinson throwing strikes but missing.

Pike is working an open guard so Robinson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Pike shoots for a double leg takedown but Robinson sprawls well. He's pushed Pike's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Robinson gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Pike escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Robinson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pike circles away.
Robinson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pike moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

so Robinson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pike is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Pike trying to control the action but Robinson is working from the bottom.
Robinson has hold of Pike's hands but Pike slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Pike moves into full mount! Robinson won't be happy about that!

BOOM! Pike connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Robinson wants to hold on but Pike pushes him away.
Robinson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Robinson can't escape the position.
Pike breaks from Robinson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Robinson is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Robinson in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pike cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Pike prevents Robinson from getting the reversal.

Pike has hold of Robinson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Robinson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Robinson gets back to half guard.
Pike wants to take a breather but Robinson is having none of it.
Robinson is trying to stand up here but Pike is controlling him well.
Robinson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pike wants to control from the top but Robinson keeps moving.

Pike avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Robinson is trying to keep Pike in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Robinson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Pike feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Robinson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pike's guard.
Robinson trying to control the position from guard on top but Pike is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Robinson tries to stand but Pike is controlling from the bottom.
Pike wants to sweep here but Robinson controlling him for the moment.
Sam Robinson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Robinson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Pike is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pike is breathing heavily.

Robinson tries to stand but Pike is controlling from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Robinson shoots and misses

and Pike counters by clinching up.
Pike looking for a takedown.

Pike jumps guard but Robinson stands there with Pike around his waist. Pike gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Robinson can't get the takedown.
Pike looking to slow down the pace here.
Pike prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Robinson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Robinson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pike avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pike trying to keep a closed guard but Robinson is proving a slippery customer.

Robinson stands and steps away. Pike gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Robinson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pike's waist but Pike gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Robinson off to one side.
Sam Robinson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Robinson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Robinson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pike looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Robinson gets to mount! Pike was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Pike tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pike is squirming around, avoiding Robinson's attempts to control the action.
Pike tries to hold on but Robinson pushes him away.
Robinson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Pike is trying to escape the mount.

Robinson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Pike because Robinson loaded up on that one.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pike can do anything to dispel that myth.
Robinson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pike looks a forlorn figure.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Robinson swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
