PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Rushing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Kiedis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kiedis comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rushing stuffs the takedown.
Rushing misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kiedis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rushing avoids it really well and circles away.
Kiedis fails with a takedown attempt.
Mason Rushing has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AJ Kiedis.
Rushing is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
AJ Kiedis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rushing tries to clinch up but Kiedis circles away and keeps his distance.
Rushing fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kiedis gets tackled into the cage by Rushing. Rushing maintains the clinch.
Kiedis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rushing gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Kiedis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Kiedis is trying to drag Rushing to the mat but Rushing just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kiedis has Rushing pressed against the cage, preventing Rushing from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rushing could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rushing pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rushing shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kiedis defends it nicely.
Kiedis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kiedis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rushing as he jumps to the side.

Rushing moves into the clinch successfully.

Rushing breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rushing fails to land the takedown.

Rushing gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kiedis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Kiedis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rushing works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kiedis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rushing is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Mason Rushing will probably get the nod.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Kiedis.
Kiedis shoots in for a takedown but Rushing shows good takedown defense.

Rushing clinches up with Kiedis and pushes him back against the cage.
Kiedis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rushing avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mason Rushing has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AJ Kiedis.

Kiedis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rushing can't fight it off and eventually Kiedis manages to take the fight to the floor. Rushing looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Rushing wants to sweep here but Kiedis controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rushing looking for a sweep. Not yet Rushing, not yet.
Rushing doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kiedis is looking to work some ground and pound but Rushing has wrist control.

Rushing looking for a guillotine here but Kiedis defends easily.

Kiedis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rushing has momentary wrist control but Kiedis slips an elbow through the middle.
Kiedis stands up over Rushing, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Kiedis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rushing. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kiedis lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kiedis is working Rushing over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rushing working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kiedis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kiedis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kiedis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

AJ Kiedis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Rushing tries to land a front kick but Kiedis steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Rushing shoots in looking for a takedown but Kiedis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rushing's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rushing shoots in for a double leg but Kiedis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kiedis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rushing was covering up waiting for the punch and Kiedis finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Rushing manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kiedis manages to get himself to full guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rushing drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rushing jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kiedis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rushing sprawls well. Rushing wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kiedis gets slowly back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
AJ Kiedis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kiedis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
