PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Karan Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Singh comes to the cage accompanied by Land of Rivers. Kenji Kang is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Karan Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kenji Kang!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kang moves to clinch but Singh breaks away

and Singh counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Singh turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kang manages to work his way to half guard, despite Singh's best efforts.
Kang is trying to maintain the position but Singh is very close to passing his half guard.
Singh lands strikes from half guard.
Kang trying to hold on to Singh's head to control him but Singh postures up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Singh lands a nice short elbow.
Singh working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Singh takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kang is staying active underneath Singh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kang is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Singh takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Singh winds up and cracks Kang with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Singh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Singh is nestled in close to Kang, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kang manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Singh wants to control from the top but Kang keeps moving.

Kang is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Singh is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kang had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Singh defends it easily.

Singh got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kang has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Singh has managed to get both his arms back between Kang's legs - danger averted.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Singh has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kang looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Kang looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Singh has picked Kang up and slammed him! Kang can't keep hold of the triangle and Singh manages to pass to side control!
Singh lands a decent elbow from side control.
Singh wants to control but Kang is keeping him busy.
Singh lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kang down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Singh stands up.
Kang blocks a head kick by Singh.

Kang blocks a low kick nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Singh as Kang shoots in.
Kang looks gassed!
Kang has his takedown stuffed
and Singh counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kang is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Karan Singh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Kang.
Kang tries to clinch up but Singh circles away and keeps his distance.
Singh pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kang doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Singh counters with a slapping leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kang misses with a takedown attempt
and Singh counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Singh closes the distance and clinches.
Singh wants to break free but Kang has control.

Singh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Singh counters with a single leg into guard. Kang didn't expect that.

Kang keeping moving, preventing Singh from controlling successfully.

Kang looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Singh keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kang's head.

Singh avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Singh trying to control the position from guard on top but Kang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Singh lands a couple of digs.

Singh tries to free his leg and advance position but Kang is retaining full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kang has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Singh doesn't defend quickly enough and Kang has managed to lock this one up! Can Singh escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Kang on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kenji Kang!
After winning the bout, Kenji Kang thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
