PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Billy Stanlay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cuneyt Karakus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Stanlay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cuneyt Karakus!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanlay shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Billy Stanlay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Karakus has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Stanlay is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Stanlay tries to close the distance and clinch but Karakus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Karakus drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Karakus wants to control from the top but Stanlay keeps moving.

Stanlay has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Karakus is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Stanlay.

Karakus tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Karakus has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Karakus advances to full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cuneyt Karakus dominated that round.
That's time! Stanlay's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stanlay throws a series of punches but Karakus moves out of range.
Stanlay throws a head kick that misses.
Stanlay looks to land a combination but Karakus avoids it well.
Karakus dodges the punch combination from Stanlay.
Stanlay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Karakus swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Karakus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Karakus wants to control from the top but Stanlay keeps moving.

Karakus is looking for a kimura but Stanlay is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Karakus to get the leverage.

Stanlay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Karakus swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Karakus misses with a takedown attempt - Stanlay sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Stanlay drops Karakus with a left right combo! Stanlay follows him down to the ground into side control.

It looks like Cuneyt Karakus has been cut.
Stanlay scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Karakus to see if he's OK.
Karakus is still in real trouble! Can Stanlay finish him?
Karakus is looking for a sweep.

Karakus tries to buck Stanlay off but Stanlay is having none of it.
Stanlay wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karakus keeps working.
Karakus seems to have recovered his senses.
Stanlay lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Karakus down.
Karakus manages to work his way to half guard, despite Stanlay's best efforts.

Stanlay is looking to take a break and control but Karakus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Karakus has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Stanlay is working away from the top position though.
Karakus wants to get back to full guard.

Stanlay wants to free his trapped foot but Karakus is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Karakus uses his free foot to push down on Stanlay's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Stanlay.
Stanlay tries to reverse the position but Karakus maintains control.

Stanlay is wriggling around trying to escape.

Karakus has hold of Stanlay's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stanlay manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Stanlay wants to hold on but Karakus pushes him away.

Karakus jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Stanlay manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Karakus is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stanlay knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Karakus connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Stanlay some visible discomfort.

Stanlay tries to bench press Karakus off him but Karakus keeps the position.

Karakus is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Stanlay reverses the position - he's now on top in Karakus's guard.

Stanlay throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stanlay fails to land with a series of punches.
Karakus misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Billy Stanlay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cuneyt Karakus.

Stanlay tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Karakus paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Karakus circles away from the clinch attempt.

Karakus shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Karakus showed some decent athleticism there.

Stanlay is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Karakus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Karakus's back!
Karakus manages to reverse the position and now he's in Stanlay's guard. Nice work there by Karakus.
Stanlay has momentary wrist control but Karakus slips an elbow through the middle.
Karakus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stanlay swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Stanlay has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karakus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Karakus stands up from Stanlay's guard - Karakus perhaps looking for a knockout.

Karakus closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Billy Stanlay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Karakus drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Karakus has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stanlay is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Stanlay throws a punch but it's blocked by Karakus.

Cuneyt Karakus comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Karakus winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
