The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter connects with an inside leg kick.
Carter jabs Buckle to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Buckle rushes Carter and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Carter scores with a shoulder strike.
Buckle dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Carter has had enough of the clinch but Buckle keeps him there for the moment.
Carter can't find room to land a body shot as Buckle controls the action.
Buckle wants to get back to striking at distance but Carter won't allow it.
Buckle tries to pull guard but Carter holds him up against the cage and eventually Buckle drops back down to his feet.

Carter is taking a breather. Buckle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Carter is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Buckle defends it well.

Carter doesn't manage to clinch there - Buckle circles away.

Buckle changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Carter fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Carter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fighters circling - Carter throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Buckle checks a leg kick.
Buckle ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Horace Buckle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Buckle tries for a takedown but Carter circles away easily
and Carter cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Carter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Buckle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carter's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Buckle enables Carter to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Buckle manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Desmond Carter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Buckle has momentary wrist control but Carter slips an elbow through the middle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Buckle's guard.
Carter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
