PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Sandelos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rex Garris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sandelos comes to the cage accompanied by We Takin' Over. Garris has chosen Blowin Money Fast by: Rick Ross as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Sandelos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rex Garris!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garris fails with a takedown attempt.
Garris throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sandelos's waist but Sandelos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Garris off to one side.
Sandelos avoids the head kick by Garris.
Garris fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jonathan Sandelos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rex Garris.
Sandelos throws a head kick that misses.
Garris tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sandelos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Garris somewhat.

Garris bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Garris working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sandelos is trying to control Garris's posture but Garris avoids it.
Sandelos is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Sandelos's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sandelos isn't going anywhere.

Garris is trying to get an arm triangle but Sandelos is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garris trying to control the position but Sandelos is working away.
Sandelos is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Garris has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Garris tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Garris throwing shots but missing, from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Garris goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sandelos has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Garris but great work by Sandelos.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Garris tries to escape but Sandelos is in control.
Garris is looking for a sweep.

Sandelos decides to stand up, so the ref orders Garris to his feet.
Garris fails to land the takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sandelos throws a head kick that misses.

Sandelos instigates a clinch.
Sandelos lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Rex Garris has been cut.
Garris tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Garris jumps guard but Sandelos stands there with Garris around his waist. Garris gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Sandelos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Garris lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sandelos circles away quickly and effectively.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sandelos lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Garris throws a sloppy head kick

and Sandelos holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Sandelos drops Garris with a big knee straight up the middle! Garris is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!


Garris is rocked!
Garris looks gassed!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Sandelos dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rex Garris's cut.
That's time! Sandelos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sandelos is looking to clinch but Garris is avoiding it.
Sandelos wants to clinch
and Garris counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sandelos is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sandelos just misses with a punch to the body.
Jonathan Sandelos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Garris throws a right and a left that both miss.

Sandelos moves into range and clinches up with Garris.
Garris tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sandelos smiles and moves away.

Sandelos lands a big head kick that sends Garris tumbling to the mat! Sandelos takes a step backwards and waves Garris back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Garris is still on wobbly legs! Can Sandelos finish him?

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sandelos instigates a clinch.
Garris seems to have recovered his senses.
Sandelos lands a good knee to the midsection. Garris won't want to take too many of those.
Garris is breathing heavily.
Sandelos working Garris over with knees to the body.
Sandelos tries a knee to the head but Garris blocks it.
Garris tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sandelos smiles and moves away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sandelos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Garris paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sandelos circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Garris drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Sandelos follows Garris to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jonathan Sandelos!
