Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mini Me (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Areeno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Mini Me!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Areeno!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Areeno walks into a left hand.
Areeno misses with a looping left.
Areeno keeps Me at a distance using the push kick.
Areeno fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mini Me seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Me throws a hook to the side of Areeno's head but Areeno sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Areeno walks into a stiff left hand from Me.
Me throws a looping overhand right but Areeno ducks down to avoid it.
Me tries to clinch but Areeno moves out of range.
Me lands a body shot.
Me checks the leg kick.
Me fails in his attempt to clinch.
Areeno throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Me connects with a body shot.
Me fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Areeno bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Areeno goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Me rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Areeno's guard! Nice work there by Me!
Areeno seems keen to control Me's posture.
Me postures up.
Areeno is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Areeno is trying to control. Me wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Areeno is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Me defends it well.

Me is refusing to be controlled, as Areeno sits in half guard.

Areeno wants to control but Me is keeping him busy.
Areeno throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Me pushes Areeno off looking to stand but Areeno dives back in and keeps control.
Areeno is just content to waste time from the top position. Me takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Me keeping moving, preventing Areeno from controlling successfully.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Areeno connects with an inside leg kick.
Me blocks a head kick by Areeno.
Some bone on bone action there as Me checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Areeno uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Me.
Areeno tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Me swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice defenses there by Areeno.
Areeno shoots in for a takedown but Me shows good takedown defense.
Me throws a shot from downtown. Areeno moves away and avoids it.
Areeno scores with the left hand. Me knows he should have avoided that one.

Areeno closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Me did well to prevent Areeno getting side control.

Areeno is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Me still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Me has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Me wants to stand but Areeno is controlling his arm.
Areeno is looking to reverse the position.

Areeno sneaks back into half guard.

Me stands up out of the half guard.
Areeno is looking to score with low kicks.
Nice cross by Areeno.
Me throws a jab when Areeno was well out of range.
Areeno tries to bum rush Me with a series of wild strikes but Me uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Areeno throws a low kick but Me moves out of range easily.
Me fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Areeno manages to avoid it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Me. Areeno does a little dance to reset his feet.

Areeno attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Me throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Areeno.
Areeno ducks under a wild hook from Me.
Areeno misses with a low kick.
Me lands a glancing blow to the side of Areeno's head.
Areeno will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Areeno avoids the body shot from Me.
Areeno takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Me looks to throw the jab but Areeno is out of range.

Areeno tries to land a leg kick but Me saw it coming and moves away.

Areeno shoots in and bounces Me off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Me is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Steve Areeno showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Areeno throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Me drops his hands momentarily and Areeno takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Areeno cracks a nice hook into Me's ribs.

Areeno drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Areeno works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Areeno is looking to advance position but Me won't allow it.

Me looks like he's trying to stand up.
Areeno missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Areeno passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Me!
Me wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Areeno misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Steve Areeno has got the better of the ground game so far.

Me wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Areeno.

Areeno has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Areeno pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Mini Me has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Poor strikes thrown by Areeno there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Areeno is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Me can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Steve Areeno comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Areeno has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
