PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Logan Barrillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Kerns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Kerns told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Logan Barrillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Kerns!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barrillo shoots in for a takedown but Kerns shows good takedown defense.
Kerns throws an overhand right that lands on Barrillo's shoulder, as Barrillo tries to avoid the shot.

Barrillo gets caught flat footed, as Kerns shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Barrillo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Barrillo working for a triangle but Kerns defends it easily.
Barrillo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kerns is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Barrillo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Barrillo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Kerns drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kerns jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Barrillo can't do much from the bottom here.
Kerns is chipping away with strikes.

Kerns is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Barrillo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kerns works to advance to full mount. Barrillo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Kerns working over Barrillo with some ground and pound. Barrillo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kerns slips a nice elbow through Barrillo's hands, connecting with Barrillo's forehead.
Barrillo is looking to improve his position.
Barrillo won't allow Kerns to pass to mount.
Kerns is nestled in close to Barrillo, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Kerns is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Barrillo defends it well.

Kerns is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Barrillo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kerns.

Barrillo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kerns's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kerns's back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Barrillo seems to be working for a kimura but Kerns defends the submission attempt.

Barrillo uses his free foot to push down on Kerns's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kerns.

Barrillo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Kerns is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kerns slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kerns wants to get back to full guard.
Kerns lands with a few short shots to the body.
Kerns keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Barrillo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kerns knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kerns wants to improve his position but Barrillo is controlling well.
Kerns makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kerns.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kerns is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Barrillo.
Kerns manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Barrillo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kerns won't allow Barrillo to sweep him here.

Barrillo has his foot on Kerns's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kerns works his way back into a safe position though.

Barrillo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kerns doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kerns manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That was a close second round but I would say that Logan Barrillo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Barrillo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kerns moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kerns has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Barrillo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kerns looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kerns looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kerns!

Kerns takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Barrillo dodges the ground and pound from Kerns.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Barrillo feints and as Kerns raises his hands in defense, Barrillo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Barrillo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Barrillo is looking to work some ground and pound but Kerns has wrist control.

Barrillo has gone for a leg lock! Kerns slips out almost immediately though and dives into Barrillo's guard.
Kerns wants to control from the top but Barrillo keeps moving.
Kerns passes Barrillo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Kerns frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Barrillo slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Barrillo is looking for a sweep. Kerns is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Barrillo works his way to full guard. Good work.

Barrillo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kerns gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Barrillo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kerns can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Barrillo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kerns is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kerns lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
