With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tom Jones!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Santiago misses.
Jones jabs Santiago to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Santiago ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Santiago takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Santiago misses with a double jab.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Santiago shows good takedown defense.
Santiago is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Santiago misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Santiago tries a head kick but it misses.
The fighters circle momentarily. Jones darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Santiago scores with a hook to the body. Jones takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Santiago misses with a double jab
and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jones misses with a looping left.
Jones scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Santiago scores with a sloppy right hand. Jones should have avoided that one.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones tried to score with a low kick but Santiago checks it.
A jab lands there for Jones.

Santiago takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Jones throws out a leg kick but Santiago moves out of range and Jones only half commits.
Santiago throws a jab when Jones was well out of range.
Santiago pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones lands a body shot.
Santiago throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Jones lands a really nice looking cross but Santiago seems unphased.
Jones throws a right and a left that Santiago avoids nicely.
Jones dodges the punch combination from Santiago.
Santiago slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jones takes one to the chin there.
Santiago misses with a body shot.
Jones wants to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones lands a lovely overhand right.
Santiago takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Santiago throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A left lands for Santiago.
Jones thuds a left hand into Santiago's body.
Jones moves out of range as Santiago strikes.
Jones with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Santiago takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Santiago throws out a loose jab but Jones uses good head movement to avoid it.
Santiago misses with a hook. Jones ducked under it nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Santiago does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Santiago swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Santiago throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones wants to clinch.
Jones works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Santiago takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Jones lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jones.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Santiago shows good takedown defense.
Santiago misses with a head kick.
Jones's corner calls for a 1-2. Jones obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.


Santiago is rocked!
Jones jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Santiago is still on wobbly legs! Can Jones finish him?
Jones lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Jones connects with a combination that backs up Santiago into the cage. Jones lands a flurry of punches that gets past Santiago's guard. Santiago is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Jones bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tom Jones!
Tom Jones retains his featherweight title!
After the fight, Tom Jones was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
