Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paulo Mendosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hugo Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendosa connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Sanchez darts in and clinches Mendosa up against the cage.
Mendosa is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sanchez pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mendosa pulls guard successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Mendosa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mendosa content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendosa wants to free his trapped foot but Sanchez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendosa is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sanchez has managed to escape the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanchez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mendosa has control of Sanchez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sanchez regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Sanchez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendosa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mendosa jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sanchez manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Mendosa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanchez dodges the ground and pound from Mendosa.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mendosa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mendosa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Mendosa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sanchez misses with a hook
and Mendosa counters with a left and a right that stings Sanchez.

Hugo Sanchez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mendosa scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
No joy there for Sanchez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sanchez feints a jab promting Mendosa to slip. Sanchez then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mendosa slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mendosa throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanchez.

Sanchez clinches.
Mendosa goes for a takedown attempt but Sanchez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Mendosa lands a nice looking body shot.
Mendosa throws out a loose jab but Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sanchez throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mendosa counters with a nice uppercut.

Sanchez on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Sanchez clinches up against the cage.
Sanchez tries to circle away but Mendosa has him pinned against the cage.
Sanchez wants to get back to striking at distance but Mendosa won't allow it.
Mendosa has Sanchez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sanchez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mendosa changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sanchez fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paulo Mendosa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mendosa works his way into full mount!

Mendosa is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Mendosa!
