And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marshall Matters!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williamson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Matters is looking to clinch but Williamson is avoiding it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Williamson.

Williamson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Matters!
You get the feeling that Matters really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Matters is looking to improve his position but Williamson isn't that keen on the idea.
Matters is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Williamson wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Matters is wriggling around trying to escape.
Matters throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Matters punching to the body and holding on for dear life.
Matters bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Matters tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Matters advances nicely into full mount.

Matters jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Williamson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Williamson and Matters has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Williamson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Matters's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Williamson is looking to improve his position.
Matters is tying to control. Williamson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Matters looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Matters seems to be working for a kimura but Williamson defends the submission attempt.
Matters looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Matters has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Matters lands with some strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Matters is persistently looking for the submission but Williamson is defending it well.

Matters is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Williamson is defending well though. Matters let's go of the attempt for now.

Williamson has hold of Matters's hands but Matters slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Williamson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Matters looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Matters is trying to control the action in half guard but Williamson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Williamson regains full guard. Nicely done.
Matters trying to control the position from guard on top but Williamson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Williamson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Matters doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Matters manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Williamson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Matters forces his way into half guard.
Matters lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Williamson gets back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marshall Matters dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Williamson gets caught flat footed, as Matters shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Matters drops back looking for a leg! Williamson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Williamson manages to kick Matters off! Matters jumps back into Williamson's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Williamson is on top in guard.

Matters is looking for a triangle but Williamson pushes his legs off easily.
Williamson forces his way into half guard.
Matters is breathing heavily.

Williamson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Matters has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Williamson should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Matters has tightened it up now! Williamson should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
