PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony Jaa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garry Dupuis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jaa comes to the cage accompanied by Anna Molly by Incubus. Dupuis has chosen Warriors Of Time by Black Tide as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tony Jaa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Garry Dupuis!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jaa tries to land a front kick but Dupuis steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Dupuis moves in looking to clinch but Jaa pushes him off.
An inside leg kick lands from Jaa.
No luck for Dupuis with that takedown attempt.
Dupuis shoots in looking for a takedown but Jaa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dupuis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jaa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Dupuis ducks under a wild hook from Jaa.
Jaa tries a head kick but it misses.
Dupuis shoots in for a takedown but Jaa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tony Jaa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Garry Dupuis.
Dupuis on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Jaa throws a half hearted mid kick.
Dupuis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jaa sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jaa throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Dupuis's head.
Jaa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dupuis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dupuis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Jaa scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Jaa avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dupuis takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Jaa tries a head kick but it misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dupuis looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jaa thuds his right hand into Dupuis's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Dupuis blocks the body kick.
Jaa slaps away a takedown attempt from Dupuis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jaa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dupuis walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Jaa works over Dupuis's head and body with a nice combination.
Jaa throws a nice inside leg kick.
A head kick from Jaa lands but Dupuis takes it in his stride.

A solid body kick from Jaa.
Jaa throws a combination. Dupuis tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Jaa throws a body kick that misses.
Dupuis on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Jaa. Jaa obviously looking to wear him down.
Jaa buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jaa throws a nice head kick!
Jaa throws a sloppy head kick and Dupuis moves out of range easily.
Jaa turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Jaa feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Dupuiss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Dupuis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jaa sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jaa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jaa kicks off Dupuis and gets to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dupuis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jaa is fending him off so far but Dupuis persists. Nope, Jaa circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown by Dupuis or perhaps it was just good defense by Jaa which made him look bad.
Dupuis avoids the head kick by Jaa.
Dupuis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
A head kick from Jaa lands but Dupuis takes it in his stride.
An inside leg kick lands from Jaa.
Jaa throws a head kick but Dupuis moves out of range.
Dupuis shoots in looking for a takedown. Jaa tries to sprawl out of it but Dupuis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jaa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Dupuis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jaa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dupuis somewhat.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jaa thumps Dupuis with a low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Jaa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dupuis fails with the takedown.

Dupuis drives through with a takedown into Jaa's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Dupuis is fighting to break Jaa's control of his arms but Jaa is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Dupuis stays in close to Jaa's body and controls the position.
Jaa has his hands on Dupuis's head, controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tony Jaa.

Dupuis on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Dupuis fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Jaa pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Dupuis jumps into guard, dragging Jaa to the mat.
Jaa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jaa trying to control the position from guard on top but Dupuis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jaa won't allow Dupuis to sweep him here.

Jaa stands and steps away. Dupuis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Dupuis chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jaa can pounce on him.
Jaa lands with a thumping leg kick.
Jaa displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dupuis.
Dupuis tries to clinch but Jaa moves out of range.
Dupuis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tony Jaa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Garry Dupuis.
Dupuis is breathing heavily.
Jaa ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Jaa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jaa pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Jaa.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dupuis is defended easily by Jaa.
Jaa throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Jaa dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dupuis. That did some damage!

Dupuis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dupuis showed some decent athleticism there.

Dupuis seems to be looking for submissions.

Dupuis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jaa does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Dupuis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jaa's waist but Jaa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dupuis off to one side.
Jaa fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Jaa fakes the leg kick and cracks Dupuis in the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dupuis shoots in but no luck this time.
A slow jab from Dupuis misses its intended target.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jaa tries a head kick but it misses.
Jaa fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Dupuis.
A chopping leg kick lands by Jaa.
Jaa misses with a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Jaa dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Jaa throws a leg kick which misses Dupuis's front leg but catches the back leg as Dupuis tries to avoid it.
Jaa keeps Dupuis at a distance using the push kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dupuis looks for a takedown but Jaa sprawls well.
Jaa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jaa throws a head kick but Dupuis moves out of range.
Jaa wants to slow Dupuis down by chopping away at his legs.
Jaa throws a leg kick which misses Dupuis's front leg but catches the back leg as Dupuis tries to avoid it.

Dupuis closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jaa quickly recovers to half guard.

Dupuis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jaa defends it well.
Dupuis wants to pass the guard but Jaa is defending well.

Tony Jaa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Tony Jaa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jaa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
