PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Landry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is "Killing In The Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Savage darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Savage is working for an americana but Landry has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Savage was thinking about the submission.
Landry keeping moving, preventing Savage from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Savage would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Landry looking for a sweep. Not yet Landry, not yet.

Savage is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Savage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Landry swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Savage drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Landry manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Savage has Landry in his guard.

Savage is working an open guard so Landry takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Savage throws out a loose jab but Landry uses good head movement to avoid it.
Landry misses with a low kick.
Landry wants to clinch.
Savage is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Landry.
Savage shoots in for a takedown but Landry shows good takedown defense.

Landry is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Savage is trying to break the clinch but Landry has him pressed against the cage.

Landry manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Savage wants to control but Landry is having none of it.

Landry stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Savage shoots in for a double leg but Landry sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Landry gets a clinch.
Savage tries to break the clinch but Landry is controlling the position.
Savage can't break the clinch.
Savage is pressed up against the cage. Landry has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Savage down to the mat. Savage avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Landry blocks a head kick by Savage.

Savage is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Landry has one foot on Savage's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Landry takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Savage drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Savage wants to control from the top but Landry keeps moving.
Landry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Derek Landry will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Savage looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Landry is fending him off so far but Savage persists. Nope, Landry circles away and we're back to standing.
Savage checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Landry gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Landry pushes Savage off looking to stand but Savage dives back in and keeps control.
Landry wants to control but Savage is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Savage wants to free his trapped foot but Landry is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jason Savage overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Landry is refusing to be controlled, as Savage sits in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Landry tries to kick Savage off but Savage keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Savage avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Landry postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Savage to stand up.

Savage shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Savage wants to control the action but instead Landry gets a body lock and reverses into Savage's guard! Nice work!

Landry stands up and waves to Savage to follow him.

Savage fails in his attempt to clinch.
Savage looks to land a left hand but Landry moved out of range nicely.

Landry shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Savage, as that shot connected.

Landry is rocked!
Derek Landry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Savage shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Landry is on queer street and Savage is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!
