PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jakob Juarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chance Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chance Powell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Juarez catches Powell with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Powell ducks under a wild hook from Juarez.
A combination from Juarez does no damage.
Powell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Juarez stuffs the takedown attempt from Powell. Powell gets slowly back to his feet.
Juarez jabs at Powell's body.
Powell throws a hook but Juarez blocks it.
Juarez slips a jab and a cross from Powell.
Powell takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Juarez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Powell postures up in Juarez's guard and throws a big left but Juarez blocks it.

Powell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Powell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Juarez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Powell has Juarez in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jakob Juarez.

Powell shoots in looking for a takedown. Juarez tries to sprawl out of it but Powell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Juarez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Juarez takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Juarez, as that shot connected.
Chance Powell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Juarez fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Juarez stuffs the takedown.

Powell takes a swing at Juarez's ribcage but misses.

Powell dives in and grabs Juarez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Juarez pushes down on Powell's head and hops out.

Powell gets tackled into the cage by Juarez. Juarez maintains the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Juarez tries to throw a body punch but Powell avoids it by throwing Juarez back against the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Juarez throws a hook to the side of Powell's head but Powell sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Juarez connects with a leg kick. Powell looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Nice sprawl there from Juarez as Powell shoots in.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Juarez slips a jab and a cross from Powell.
Chance Powell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Juarez stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Powell shoots in for a double leg but Juarez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Powell misses the jab.
Powell changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Juarez throws out a loose jab but Powell uses good head movement to avoid it.
Powell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Juarez lands a nice shot that snaps Powell's head back.
Powell wants to clinch up but Juarez keeps it at a distance.
Juarez works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Powell on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Juarez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Powell's hands.
Powell misses with a body punch
and Juarez counters with a left to the body.
Powell is breathing heavily.
Powell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Juarez connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Powell momentarily.

Juarez lands a left and a right that send Powell crashing to the mat, dazed. Juarez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Powell is rocked!

It looks like Chance Powell has been cut.
Juarez is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Powell flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Powell is out cold! Juarez holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
