PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tony Romo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Im Chopped (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Romo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Im Chopped!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chopped misses with a takedown attempt
and Romo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Romo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Romo cracks Chopped with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Chopped doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Romo counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Im Chopped seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Romo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Romo pushing down on Chopped's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Romo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Romo is thwarting Chopped's attempts to control the position.

Romo tries to pass to full mount but Chopped defends it.
Chopped is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Romo scores with a couple of nice shots.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chopped can do anything to dispel that myth.

Romo thows a huge punch but Chopped dodges it nicely.

Chopped is looking to control Romo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chopped avoid being mounted?
Chopped on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Chopped avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Romo.
Romo content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Romo is working for a kimura but Chopped is defending it quite comfortably.
Romo is taking a breather. Chopped says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Romo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Chopped has managed to free his arm - good work.

Romo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chopped doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Romo.

Romo is nestled in close to Chopped, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chopped trying to control from the bottom.
Romo works his way into side control.
Chopped throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Romo landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Romo tries to score with some ground and pound. Chopped controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Romo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chopped is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Chopped seems a little lost for a moment, as Romo dominates the positioning.

Romo lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chopped tries to buck Romo off but Romo is having none of it.

Romo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Chopped, who protects the arm well.

Chopped takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Romo controls the position.
Chopped wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Romo fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Chopped on the side of the head.
Chopped is looking to chop away at Romo's legs.
Chopped wants to clinch up but Romo keeps it at a distance.

Romo has closed the distance and engaged Chopped in a clinch.
Chopped has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Chopped trying to stall but Romo improves his position.
Romo prevents a takedown attempt there.
Chopped tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Romo tries to throw a body punch but Chopped avoids it by throwing Romo back against the cage.
Chopped is trying to drag Romo to the mat but Romo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Tony Romo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Im Chopped.

Romo will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Chopped up against the cage.

Romo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Tony Romo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Romo is trying to control the action in half guard but Chopped is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Chopped is looking to improve his position but Romo isn't that keen on the idea.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


A jab lands there for Romo.

Im Chopped is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Chopped gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Romo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Romo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Chopped defends it nicely.
Romo misses the shot to the body.
Romo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chopped was well out of range. Poor timing from Romo.
Jab, jab by Romo - just one landing.

Romo gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Romo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Romo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Romo is controlling Chopped's posture.
Romo is trying to keep Chopped in close.
Romo pulls Chopped in to control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Tony Romo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Romo moves into the clinch.
Romo lands a left hand that snaps the head of Chopped backwards.
Chopped missing with knees to the body.

Romo misses with a body punch.
Romo lands with a light punch inside.

Chopped is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Romo pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Romo has control of Chopped's left arm, preventing Chopped from doing any damage.
Tony Romo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Romo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chopped's guard.

Chopped not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Romo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Chopped takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Chopped has momentary wrist control but Romo slips an elbow through the middle.
Romo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Romo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Romo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Chopped working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Romo.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Romo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well Romo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
