PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hans Spast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rann Veer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Veer comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Face the Pain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hans Spast!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rann Veer!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Veer closes the distance and clinches up with Spast, looking for a takedown. Veer pushes Spast against the cage but Spast circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Veer.
Veer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Spast scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Spast is keen to just control but Veer is a slippery customer.
Spast passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Veer!
Veer should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Veer tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Veer really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Spast controlling the pace for now.
Spast seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Veer for as long as he can get away with.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Spast circles away from the clinch attempt.

Veer is trying to break free.

Veer has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Spast uses from the top position.

Spast controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Veer is wriggling around but Spast manages to pass to half guard.
Spast wants to pass the guard but Veer is defending well.

Well, if Spast is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Veer keeps control of the position for the meantime.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Veer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Spast dominated that round.
That's time! Spast's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Spast gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Veer tries to land knees in the clinch but Spast avoids the damage to the body.

Veer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Veer feints and as Spast raises his hands in defense, Veer changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Spast on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Spast tries to get out of the position.
Veer throwing strikes from guard but Spast blocks nicely.
Veer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Spast swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Veer wanted to stand there but Spast had control of the position.
Spast pulls Veer in close to prevent any damage.

Spast is trying to keep Veer in close.
Veer stops Spast from standing up.

We're going to have a standup here because Hans Spast wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Veer fails with an attempt to clinch.
Spast shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Veer sprawls well. Veer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Spast gets slowly back to his feet.
Veer moves out of range of the body kick from Spast.
Veer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Spast paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spast sizes up Veer with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Spast swings for the body but Veer moves out of range.
Veer shoots for a double leg takedown but Spast sprawls well. He's pushed Veer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Veer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Spast clinches with his opponent.
Veer drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Spast tries for a takedown but Veer manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hans Spast. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Veer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Veer throws a leg kick but Spast sees it coming and moves out of range.
Veer closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.


It looks like Rann Veer has been cut.
Spast defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Veer.
Veer misses with a takedown attempt - Spast sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Veer is breathing heavily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Veer.
Veer trying to control the action but Spast is working from the bottom.

Spast throws Veer to one side and escapes!

Veer doesn't manage to clinch there - Spast circles away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Veer tries to clinch up.
Veer shoots in but no luck this time.
Veer thows a leg kick but Spast checks it
and Spast counters with a nice body shot.
Veer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Spast sizes up Veer with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Spast is looking to clinch but Veer is avoiding it.

Spast has taken the fight to the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Spast has Veer pressed against the cage.
Veer is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Spast is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hans Spast will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Rann Veer's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Spast closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Veer is trying to maintain the position but Spast is very close to passing his half guard.
Spast trying to control the pace.
Veer trying to control from the bottom.

Veer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Veer controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rann Veer wasn't active enough on the ground.

Spast darts in and clinches Veer up against the cage.

Spast breaks the clinch.
Spast shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Veer eats them both and turns towards Spast to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Hans Spast is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Spast lands a high kick!
Veer tries to close the distance and clinch but Spast swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Veer looks for a takedown but Spast sprawls well.
Veer tries to clinch
and Spast counters with a head kick. That will keep Veer thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!


Veer is rocked!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Spast shoots in for a takedown. SLAM! Brutal! Veer is out cold and this one is all over!
