The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirunda connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between James's hands.
Kirunda misses with a hook. James ducked under it nicely.

James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kirunda looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

James moves into range and connects with a jab.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

James will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

James shoots in looking for a takedown. Kirunda tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kirunda manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
James has Kirunda pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Kirunda gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kirunda takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James scores with a crisp jab that stopped Kirunda in his tracks.
Kirunda pivots, looking for a leg kick but James is out of range and Kirunda settles back down.
James feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kirundas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Kirunda takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Well James has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
