PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between DJ Michihiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ulysses Kanu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michihiro comes into the arena with Bad Company blaring out of the sound system. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, DJ Michihiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ulysses Kanu!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kanu is looking to clinch.
Kanu takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Michihiro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Michihiro fails with the takedown.
Michihiro avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kanu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Michihiro manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Michihiro fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kanu, pushing him back against the cage.
Kanu using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Michihiro has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Kanu continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Michihiro goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kanu prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for DJ Michihiro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The referee calls for Kanu to work.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ulysses Kanu.
Kanu wants to clinch.

Kanu closes the distance but Michihiro moves to the side
and Michihiro finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Kanu wants to clinch up but Michihiro keeps it at a distance.
Kanu is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kanu tries to clinch there but Michihiro circles away.
Kanu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Michihiro manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Michihiro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kanu but Kanu pushes him off and we're back to square one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like DJ Michihiro has been cut.

Kanu lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Michihiro is breathing heavily.
Michihiro looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kanu tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kanu misses with a knee strike.
Kanu's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Michihiro tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kanu slows down the pace here.
Michihiro takes a knee to the side of the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kanu is stalling here.

Kanu throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Kanu lands with a right to the head.
Kanu displaying some good clinch control by pressing Michihiro up against the cage.
Kanu lands an elbow just above Michihiro 's eye.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ulysses Kanu dominated that round.
The cut man is working on DJ Michihiro's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Kanu drives through and clinches with Michihiro against the cage.
Michihiro blocks a body shot from Kanu.
Michihiro jumps guard but Kanu turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Kanu tries a knee to the head but Michihiro blocks it.

Kanu lands a damaging elbow.

Michihiro changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kanu fights it off and pushes away nicely.
DJ Michihiro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kanu wants to clinch up but Michihiro keeps it at a distance.
DJ Michihiro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kanu doesn't manage to clinch there - Michihiro circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kanu moves to clinch but Michihiro breaks away

and Michihiro counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kanu won't be happy with that.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Michihiro is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kanu will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Kanu tries to escape back to his feet but Michihiro has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Kanu's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Kanu is tapping! Michihiro saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). DJ Michihiro!
DJ Michihiro very nearly forgot to thank 1337 ANZAC amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
