The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sessions tries to clinch but Kartov moves out of range.
Sessions throws out a loose jab but Kartov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Crunch! Sessions slams his shin into Kartov's torso.
Sessions uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kartov.
Kartov blocks the body kick.
Kartov fails with a takedown attempt.
Kartov throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kartov fails with a takedown attempt.
Kartov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sessions throws the kick towards the body but Kartov avoids it.

Kartov shoots in and gets a takedown into Sessions's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sessions trying to keep a closed guard but Kartov is proving a slippery customer.

Sessions looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kartov passes into half guard.

Kartov is taking a breather. Sessions says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sessions is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sessions wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Manny Sessions just wasn't active enough.
Kartov moves out of range of the leg kick from Sessions.
Sessions misses with a body kick.
Kartov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Manny Sessions has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nogi Kartov.
Kartov avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

and Kartov counters with a nice low kick that buckles Sessions's knee momentarily.

Kartov swats away the attempt to clinch by Sessions.
Sessions shoots in but Kartov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sessions throws a leg kick but Kartov sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Kartov takes a kick to the side of the head.

and Kartov counters with a straight right hand.
Kartov lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kartov is defended easily by Sessions.

Kartov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kartov lands in his opponent's guard.
Kartov trying to control but Sessions is working from the bottom.
Sessions can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kartov controls the pace.
Kartov slips nicely into half guard.

Sessions won't allow Kartov to pass to mount.
Sessions keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Kartov is looking for a kimura but Sessions is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kartov to get the leverage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kartov passes the guard and advances to mount!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sessions comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Kartov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sessions.
Kartov avoids the head kick by Sessions.
Kartov lands a right hook to the body.
Sessions throws a body kick that misses.

Kartov moves into range and clinches up with Sessions.
Kartov avoids the elbow strike from Sessions, against the cage.

Kartov decides to pull guard.

Kartov is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Sessions has his hands clasped together but Kartov extends an breaks Sessions's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kartov.
