Carwin gets a double leg takedown into Sanford's guard.
Sanford trying to keep a closed guard but Carwin is proving a slippery customer.
Sanford utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carwin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sanford manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Carwin has Sanford in his guard.
Carwin manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Still in half guard, Carwin seems content to control.
Carwin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Carwin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sanford's waist but Sanford gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carwin off to one side.
Fred Sanford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shane Carwin.

Sanford throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Sanford gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Carwin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sanford is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carwin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanford swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carwin tries to stand but Sanford is controlling from the bottom.
Carwin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Carwin postures up in Sanford's guard and throws a big left but Sanford blocks it.
Sanford is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shane Carwin dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Sanford enables Carwin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sanford manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Carwin fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sanford takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
It looks like Fred Sanford has been cut.
Carwin controlling the pace for now.
Sanford can't escape the position.
Carwin is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Sanford is looking to get to half guard.
BOOM! Carwin connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Sanford knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carwin on the ground.

Carwin is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sanford can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Carwin looking for a guillotine from mount but Sanford is having none of it.

Carwin wants to finish this one by submission but Sanford is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Carwin.
