Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Channell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Syap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Channell comes to the cage accompanied by Wizard. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ian Channell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Syap!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Channell clinches up against the cage.
Channell lands an elbow that stopped Syap in his tracks for a moment.
Channell gets underhooks to prevent Syap's takedown attempt.
Syap takes an elbow to the forehead.
Syap is trying to push Channell away but Channell has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Channell has Syap pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Syap manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Channell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Syap leaves Channell with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Syap has closed the distance and engaged Channell in a clinch.
Channell with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Channell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Channell moves into range and clinches up with Syap.

Channell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice sprawl there from Syap as Channell shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Channell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Syap shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Channell blocks a head kick by Syap.

Channell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Horrible takedown by Syap or perhaps it was just good defense by Channell which made him look bad.

Syap closes the distance and pushes Channell back into the cage.
Channell connects with a knee to the head.

Channell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Channell tries to clinch but Syap is having none of it.
Syap fails with a takedown attempt.

Channell gets tackled into the cage by Syap. Syap maintains the clinch.
Syap tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Channell just stands there and leans against the cage.
Syap misses with a knee strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Channell lands a nice elbow.
Syap has Channell pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Channell manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Channell just leaning against Syap, taking a breather.
Channell using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Syap tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Channell smiles and moves away.
Channell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Syap but Syap pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Syap clinches up with Channell and pushes him back against the cage.

Channell jumps into guard, dragging Syap to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Channell is controlling Syap's posture.

Channell is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Syap has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Channell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Syap prevents a takedown attempt there.
Channell drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Channell is breathing heavily.
Syap tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Channell has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Syap off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Syap shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Channell as he jumps to the side.

Syap throws a leg kick that is checked
and Channell counters with a leg kick.
Syap throws a body punch but Channell moves out of range.

Syap has closed the distance and engaged Channell in a clinch.

Channell jumps guard.
Syap trying to control but Channell is working from the bottom.
Syapis looking to pass into half guard but Channell pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Channell is in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Channell stands and steps away. Syap gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Syap misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Channell.
Syap tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ian Channell dominated that round.
That's time! Channell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Syap tries to circle away but Channell has him pinned against the cage.
Channell lands a knee to the head.
Syap is working for takedown but Channell is calmly controlling the position for now.
Syap is breathing heavily.

Channell pulls guard successfully.
Syap is fighting to break Channell's control of his arms but Channell is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Channell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Syap can do anything to dispel that myth.
Channell controlling the pace for now.

Syap is wriggling around trying to escape.
Syap tries to hold on but Channell postures up.
Channell controlling from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Syap is looking to improve his position but Channell isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Ian Channell has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Syap. No joy for Channell on that attempt.

Syap closes the distance and clinches.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Channell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Channell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Syap swats him away and circles back towards the center.

It looks like Jim Syap has been cut.

Syap gets a double leg takedown into Channell's guard.
Channell tries to strike from the bottom.

Channell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Syap is trying desperately to improve position.

Syap is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Channell controlling from the full mount.
Syap is in all sorts of trouble here.
Syap really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Channell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Syap is trying to escape the mount.
Channell working the ground and pound effectively.

Channell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ian Channell showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Channell has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
