PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Admiral Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and D J Benn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Admiral Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, D J Benn!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benn lands a nice shot to the body.
D J Benn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nelson throws a sloppy head kick and Benn moves out of range easily.

Nelson clinches.
Nelson is stalling here.
Benn is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nelson is defending well for now.

Nelson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nelson manages to end up in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nelson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Benn on the ground.
Benn wants to control but Nelson postures up.
Nelson wants to control for a moment but Benn uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Benn is looking to control Nelson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Benn avoid being mounted?
Nelson thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Benn to regain full guard.

Nelson throwing strikes but missing.

Benn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Nelson is looking to work some ground and pound but Benn has wrist control.
Nelson preventing the sweep.
Benn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Nelson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Benn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nelson has managed to get both his arms back between Benn's legs - danger averted.

Nelson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Benn has his foot on Nelson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nelson works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Benn seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Nelson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Benn is pulling down on Nelson's head to control his posture.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Benn closes the distance and clinches up with Nelson, looking for a takedown. Benn pushes Nelson against the cage but Nelson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Benn shoots in but Nelson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Benn keeping moving, preventing Nelson from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Benn is on top in guard.
Nelson controls Benn momentarily but Benn frees himself.
Benn wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.
Benn is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Admiral Nelson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Nelson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Benn.
Benn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Benn needs to keep his hands up - Nelson had a free shot at his head there.
Benn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nelson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Admiral Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of D J Benn.
Benn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nelson pinned against the cage. Nelson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Benn gets tackled into the cage by Nelson. Nelson maintains the clinch.

Benn tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Nelson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nelson has clasped his hands together around Benn's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Benn wants to improve his position but Nelson is controlling well.
D J Benn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nelson tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Benn.

Nelson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Benn moves into full guard.

Benn looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Nelson is defending well. Benn quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Nelson has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Benn celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
