PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dean Polhamus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ylo En (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dean Polhamus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ylo En!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

En shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Polhamus is trying to defend but En finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
En trying to control from half guard but Polhamus is working away.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ylo En.

Polhamus closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

En escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

En closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Polhamus to the mat! Polhamus manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
En not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
En looks gassed!

That's one minute gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ylo En hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Polhamus forces En back against the cage and clinches.

Polhamus jumps guard and drags En to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
En with a flurry of punches that miss.
En trying to control the position from guard on top but Polhamus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Polhamus might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ylo En hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

En shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Polhamus's guard.
En wants to stand and escape but instead Polhamus has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Polhamus trying to control the position from guard on top but En is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
En striking off his back.
En tries to land a sweep but no joy.
En trying to control the position.

En is working an open guard so Polhamus takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Polhamus fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with En, pushing him back against the cage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
En jumps guard.
Polhamus trying to control but En is working from the bottom.

En had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Polhamus defends it easily.
Polhamus has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of En is proving hard to escape from.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

En looking for a guillotine here but Polhamus defends easily.
En really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Polhamus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Polhamus postures up.

En is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Polhamus advances to half guard.
En wants to get back to his feet.

Polhamus is working for a kimura but En is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
En missing with punches from the bottom.
Polhamus wants to get back to his feet.
En is pressing down on Polhamus's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Polhamus with a flurry of punches that miss.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

En uses the cage to get back to his feet.

En scores with a takedown into Polhamus's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ylo En dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Polhamus darts in and clinches En up against the cage.

Polhamus jumps guard and drags En to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
En throws a big right hand that misses.

En stands up and waves to Polhamus to follow him.

En closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - En lands in his opponent's guard.
Polhamus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
En trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
En tries to stand but Polhamus is controlling from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ylo En.

Polhamus clinches.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from En.

Polhamus manages to pull guard.
En wants to stand but Polhamus has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
En is looking to advance position but Polhamus has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Polhamus wants to get back to his feet but En is holding on tight.
Polhamus avoids the attempt from En to control.

Polhamus is working for a guillotine from mount but En frees his head quite easily.
En wants to control but Polhamus is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Polhamus swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
