PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yoshido Yamaha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Filipunaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yamaha comes to the cage accompanied by Teriyaki boyz - fast and furious. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Akira Filipunaki enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshido Yamaha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Filipunaki!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamaha shoots in and drives through. Filipunaki sprawls well.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Filipunaki.
Filipunaki takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Horrible takedown by Filipunaki or perhaps it was just good defense by Yamaha which made him look bad.
Yamaha keeps the fight on the outside.
Filipunaki tries to clinch but Yamaha moves out of range.
Yamaha scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


Filipunaki is rocked!
Filipunaki looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yamaha is fending him off so far but Filipunaki persists. Nope, Yamaha circles away and we're back to standing.
Yoshido Yamaha has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akira Filipunaki.
No joy there for Yamaha, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Yoshido Yamaha just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Yamaha scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Filipunaki tries to clinch but Yamaha moves out of range.

Filipunaki takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Yamaha doesn't manage to clinch there - Filipunaki circles away.

Yamaha fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Filipunaki, pushing him back against the cage.

Yamaha escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Filipunaki avoids a punch combination nicely.
Yamaha throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Yamaha counters with a left hand that sends Filipunaki to the canvas!

Yamaha gets to his feet - Filipunaki follows without any prompting.
Filipunaki ducks under a wild hook from Yamaha.
Yamaha tries to work over Filipunaki's front leg with a kick but Filipunaki checks it.

Filipunaki shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Yamaha keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Filipunaki is working for a kimura but Yamaha is defending it quite comfortably.
Filipunaki wants to stand but Yamaha has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Filipunaki is looking to take a break and control but Yamaha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Yamaha has one foot on Filipunaki's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Yoshido Yamaha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yamaha throws a nice looking combination but Filipunaki bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A combination from Yamaha does no damage.
Yamaha swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Filipunaki drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Filipunaki has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Filipunaki keeps the fight on the outside.
Filipunaki shoots for a takedown but Yamaha saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Filipunaki has taken the fight to the clinch.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Yamaha looks to land a combination. Filipunaki sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Yamaha throws a right hand that Filipunaki ducks under and follows up with a left that Filipunaki also avoids with ease.
Yamaha scores with a hook to the body. Filipunaki takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Yamaha stalks Filipunaki and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Filipunaki's face. Filipunaki staggers backwards, shaken.
A nice combination there by Yamaha.
Filipunaki ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Filipunaki moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Filipunaki darts in and clinches Yamaha up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

and Filipunaki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Yamaha won't be happy with that.
Yamaha is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Filipunaki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yamaha keeps working.

Yamaha is looking to regain half guard here but Filipunaki keeps moving and retains side control.

Filipunaki tries to pull guard but Yamaha holds him up against the cage and eventually Filipunaki drops back down to his feet.
Filipunaki has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Yamaha is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Yamaha is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Filipunaki can't fight it off and eventually Yamaha manages to take the fight to the floor. Filipunaki looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Yamaha is taking a breather. Filipunaki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

and Yamaha counters with a right hand that sends Filipunaki tumbling to the canvas! Can Yamaha finish him? He dives into Filipunaki's guard looking to do just that!

Filipunaki is working an open guard so Yamaha takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoshido Yamaha dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Filipunaki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Filipunaki lands in his opponent's guard.

Filipunaki tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Yamaha smiles and moves away.
Yamaha is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Filipunaki shoots in looking for a takedown. Yamaha tries to sprawl out of it but Filipunaki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yamaha manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
