PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Badr Hari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rob Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Badr Hari!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Hari or perhaps it was just good defense by Mendez which made him look bad.

Hari has managed to clinch.

Hari has Mendez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hari pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mendez tumbling to the mat - Hari dives into Mendez's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hari engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hari pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mendez is keeping the position for now.
Mendez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hari slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rob Mendez wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Hari moves into the clinch.
Mendez is trying to drag Hari to the mat but Hari just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mendez stops a takedown attempt from Hari.
Hari content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Mendez has Hari pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hari manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hari is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mendez pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Rob Mendez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Badr Hari.

Hari tightens his grip and picks Mendez up, before dumping him to the ground. Mendez manages to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hari is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Badr Hari was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Mendez doesn't manage to clinch there - Hari circles away.
Hari leaves Mendez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hari shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hari showed some decent athleticism there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Well, if Hari is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hari is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mendez!
Hari takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hari's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like Hari might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Badr Hari dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Hari has a takedown stuffed.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mendez.
Badr Hari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hari shoots in for a takedown but Mendez shows good takedown defense.
Hari is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mendez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rob Mendez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Badr Hari.
Hari closes the distance and clinches up with Mendez, looking for a takedown. Hari pushes Mendez against the cage but Mendez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hari displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mendez.
Mendez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Hari moves into range and clinches up with Mendez.
Mendez tries to pull guard but Hari won't allow it.
Hari pushes Mendez back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hari unloads a knee to the mid-section. Mendez lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
A right hook to the body lands for Hari.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hari gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mendez regains guard.
Hari sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mendez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Badr Hari has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hari controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Badr Hari hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hari.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hari moves into the clinch.
Hari lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Rob Mendez has been cut.
Mendez takes a knee right on the jaw!

Hari turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Mendez wants to control but Hari postures up.
The referee asks Hari politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hari prefers to stall for the moment though.
You can see the frustration on Mendez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendez taking punishment in the form of punches.
Mendez dodges the ground and pound from Hari.
Hari is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mendez's shoulder. That is not cool.
Mendez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hari wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hari happy to just control the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mendez is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Hari has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hari thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hari working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Hari in side control, just content to control the action for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Badr Hari showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Rob Mendez's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Mendez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hari circles away.
A combination from Mendez does no damage.
Hari shoots in looking for a takedown but Mendez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hari's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hari connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Mendez to the floor! Hari dives in looking for the finish!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hari takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Hari is controlling the pace.
Hari moves nicely into side control.
Mendez dodges the ground and pound from Hari.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendez parries the strikes from Hari easily there. Hari is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mendez to escape.
Hari is working Mendez over with some ground and pound from side control.


Rob Mendez's cut is getting worse.
Hari controls the position.

Hari looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Mendez is letting Hari control him for a moment.
Mendez tries to bench press Hari off him but Hari keeps the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendez trying to remain calm as Hari controls from the top position.
Hari throws a strike aimed at the side of Mendez's head but Mendez avoids it well.
Hari taking a breather here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

You can see the frustration on Mendez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Rob Mendez's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rob Mendez's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
