PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raymond Blew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Orlando Cardigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cardigan has chosen cold as ice as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Orlando Cardigan was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Raymond Blew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Orlando Cardigan!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardigan throws a sloppy head kick and Blew moves out of range easily.
Blew lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Cardigan misses with a wild body shot.
Cardigan tries to clinch but Blew moves away
and Blew connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cardigan closes the distance looking to clinch
and Blew counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cardigan doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Blew counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Cardigan forces Blew back against the cage and clinches.
Blew blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Cardigan creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Blew's defenses.
Cardigan comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Blew is trying to break free.
Blew is looking to break free of the clinch but Cardigan has double underhooks.

Cardigan unloads a knee to the mid-section. Blew lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Cardigan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Blew is keeping busy.

Blew tries to break free but Cardigan pushes him back against the cage.
Cardigan creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Blew's defenses.
Cardigan throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Blew blocks it with crossed arms.

Blew breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Blew swats away the attempt to clinch by Cardigan.
Cardigan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cardigan avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A solid leg kick lands there for Cardigan.

Blew has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Cardigan.
Cardigan takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

and Blew counters with a one-two to the body.
Cardigan fails in his attempt to clinch.

Cardigan pushes Blew up against the cage in a clinch.
Blew is trying to break free.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cardigan jumps guard but Blew stands there with Cardigan around his waist. Cardigan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The fight stays on the outside here - Cardigan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cardigan tries to close the distance and clinch but Blew swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Cardigan doesn't manage to clinch there - Blew circles away.
Cardigan tried to score with a low kick but Blew checks it.

Blew is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

The fight stays on the outside here - Cardigan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cardigan throws a leg kick but Blew checks it.
Cardigan connects with a leg kick. Blew looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Blew tries to keep at a distance but Cardigan has taken the fight into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cardigan misses with a knee to the head.
Blew avoiding damage as Cardigan throws knees to the body.
Blew is trying to force a seperation but Cardigan has the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Orlando Cardigan will probably get the nod.

Cardigan tries to close the distance and clinch but Blew swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cardigan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Cardigan is looking to clinch but Blew is avoiding it.
Blew is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Cardigan finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Blew checks a low kick from Cardigan.
Cardigan throws out a leg kick but Blew moves out of range and Cardigan only half commits.
Cardigan shoots in but no luck this time.
Cardigan has a takedown stuffed.

Blew tries to keep at a distance but Cardigan has taken the fight into the clinch.
Blew has had enough of the clinch but Cardigan keeps him there for the moment.

It looks like Raymond Blew has been cut.
Cardigan tries to land knees in the clinch but Blew avoids the damage to the body.
Blew wants to break the clinch but can't.
Blew avoids the elbow strike from Cardigan, against the cage.
Cardigan manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Cardigan is trying to stall.
Cardigan has Blew pressed against the cage, preventing Blew from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Blew takes an elbow to the temple.

Cardigan tightens his grip and picks Blew up, before dumping him to the ground. Blew manages to land in guard.

Cardigan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Blew has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cardigan has managed to get both his arms back between Blew's legs - danger averted.

Cardigan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Raymond Blew has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Orlando Cardigan.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cardigan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Blew has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Orlando Cardigan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Raymond Blew's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cardigan is defended easily by Blew.
Blew connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cardigan. Cardigan circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Cardigan tries to clinch but Blew is having none of it.
Blew avoids a punch combination nicely.

Blew has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cardigan finds it's way round the side to connect with Blew's head.

Cardigan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cardigan wants to clinch but Blew slips to the side
and Blew counters with a one-two to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cardigan fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Blew has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Orlando Cardigan seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Blew counters with a straight right hand.
Orlando Cardigan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cardigan feints and as Blew raises his hands in defense, Cardigan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cardigan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cardigan throws a strike but Blew rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Blew avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Blew trying to control the position from guard on top but Cardigan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blew pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cardigan is keeping the position for now.

Cardigan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Blew doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Blew manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cardigan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cardigan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cardigan looking for a guillotine here but Blew defends easily.
Blew wants to control from the top but Cardigan keeps moving.
Blew postures up in Cardigan's guard and throws a big left but Cardigan blocks it.

Cardigan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blew gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Blew wants to pass the guard but Cardigan is keeping the position.
Blew is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Orlando Cardigan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Raymond Blew has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Blew stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cardigan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Blew will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

We're going to have a standup here because Raymond Blew wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cardigan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Orlando Cardigan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cardigan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
