PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Helms (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Foster's choice of entrance music: New Zealand All Blacks - Haka. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster fails to land with a series of punches.

Foster avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Helms shoots in looking for a takedown. Foster tries to sprawl out of it but Helms keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Foster manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Helms wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Foster, who protects the arm well.
Foster really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Helms. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Helms bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Foster's guard.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Helms here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Helms closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Foster to the mat! Foster manages to get full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gregory Helms will probably get the nod.

Foster tries to bum rush Helms with a series of wild strikes but Helms uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Helms turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Helms manages to end up in side control.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Helms, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
