PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Aerts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baeddan Mc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mc has chosen The Choice Is Yours (This or That) by Black Sheep as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Aerts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Baeddan Mc!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mc closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Aerts's guard.
Mc postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mc trying to control but Aerts is working from the bottom.
Aerts utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mc looking to pass the guard.
Mc thows a big elbow that misses.
Mc lands a couple of elbows.
Mc trying to control the position from guard on top but Aerts is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Mc postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mc missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Aerts knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mc on the ground.
Mc looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Mc throwing strikes from guard but Aerts blocks nicely.
Mc passes into half guard.
Aerts is refusing to be controlled, as Mc sits in half guard.

Mc takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Mc thows a huge punch but Aerts dodges it nicely.

Mc is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Aerts sees it coming and defends easily.
Aerts on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Aerts tries to get out of the position.
Mc trying to control from Aerts's half guard. Aerts has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Mc has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Baeddan Mc was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Mc sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Mc fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mc shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mc shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Mc has control of Aerts's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Aerts regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Mc wants to control the pace but Aerts is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mc fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aerts is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baeddan Mc dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mc misses with a two punch combination.
Aerts dodges the punch combination from Mc.
Aerts stuffs the takedown attempt from Mc. Mc gets slowly back to his feet.

Mc shoots in and bounces Aerts off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Aerts can't keep his opponent in guard - Mc advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Mc wants to take a breather but Aerts is having none of it.
Mc throwing shots but Aerts is blocking nicely.

Mc is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Aerts doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mc.

Mc is trying to control the action in half guard but Aerts is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mc stalling away here and it's allowed Aerts to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Aerts can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mc controls the pace.
Aerts can't keep his opponent in guard - Mc advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mc is trying to control. Aerts wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mc wants to work for an arm triangle but Aerts is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mc wants to control but Aerts is keeping him busy.
Baeddan Mc has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mc might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Aerts kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mc throwing strikes but Aerts manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
You can see the frustration on Mc's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mc wants to control but Aerts is having none of it.

Baeddan Mc showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Mc closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Aerts connects with a body shot that sends Mc's belly button to the back.
Mc throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Aerts lands with a nice body punch.
Both fighters circling a little - Aerts finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Aerts fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mc manages to avoid it.
Baeddan Mc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mc throws a shot to the body.
Aerts jabs Mc to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Aerts misses with a kick to the body.
Mc shoots in for a double leg but Aerts sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mc dives in and grabs Aerts's left leg, looking for a takedown. Aerts pushes down on Mc's head and hops out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mc closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mc lands in his opponent's guard.
Mc wants to control from the top but Aerts keeps moving.
Mc takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mc tries to free his leg and advance position but Aerts is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aerts is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mc wants to control from the top but Aerts keeps moving.
Aerts wants to stand up but Mc is controlling him.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Aerts keeping moving, preventing Mc from controlling successfully.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Baeddan Mc wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mc shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Aerts defends it nicely.
Peter Aerts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Baeddan Mc.

Aerts misses with a body shot.
Aerts goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Mc stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Aerts.
Mc fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Aerts avoids it really well and circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Aerts uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Aerts looks for the body kick but Mc saw that one coming.
Aerts lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Aerts scores with a kick to the midsection.
Aerts scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mc shoots in and drives through. Aerts sprawls well.

Mc gets a double leg takedown into Aerts's guard.
Mc sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mc wants to control from the top but Aerts keeps moving.
Baeddan Mc is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mc is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Aerts keeping moving, preventing Mc from controlling successfully.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Baeddan Mc hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Aerts tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Mc paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Aerts leaves Mc with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Aerts, right into the meat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mc just misses with a punch to the body.

Mc bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mc trying to control the position but Aerts is working away.
Aerts is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Peter Aerts has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Aerts is trying to escape the position but Mc is controlling the position.
Aerts gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Aerts.
I think Mc has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
