Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bert Ernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shields comes into a darkened arena with his song building. RAWR kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Bert Ernie has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ernie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ernie throwing strikes from guard but Shields blocks nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ernie throws a strike but Shields rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shields winds up and cracks Ernie with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Ernie is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shields pulls his head out easily.

Shields drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ernie manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shields has Ernie in his guard.

Ernie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ernie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shields swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ernie wants to control from the top but Shields keeps moving.

Shields has his foot on Ernie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ernie works his way back into a safe position though.

We're going to have a standup here because Bert Ernie wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Ernie shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shields manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Shields controls Ernie momentarily but Ernie frees himself.

Shields escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ernie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ernie wants to control from the top but Shields keeps moving.

Shields is looking for a triangle but Ernie pushes his legs off easily.

Shields is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Bert Ernie will probably get the nod.
