The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bertholf keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A head kick misses from Bertholf.
Bertholf misses with a jab, cross combination.
Arthur Bertholf seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bertholf moves into the clinch.
Bertholf tries to break free but Kirk pushes him back against the cage.
Kirk changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bertholf fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kirk shoots in for a takedown but Bertholf shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Kirk changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bertholf fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Kirk shoots in for a double leg but Bertholf sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kirk stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kirk wants it to stay on the feet.
Bertholf wants to clinch.
Kirk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bertholf sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kirk somewhat.
Kirk fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kirk connects with a leg kick. Bertholf looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Bertholf avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kirk closes the distance and pushes Bertholf back into the cage.

Kirk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bertholf darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Arthur Bertholf is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kirk lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bertholf!
